When and Why Did You Start Blogging?
After a few months writing for Examiner.com, I started Midwest Wanderer in May 2013. I had always dreamed of being a travel writer and found a blog to be the best way to break into the industry.

What Blogs Do You Read On A Regular Basis?
I subscribe to lots of blogs from other Midwest Travel Bloggers, plus blogs from destinations and blogs about blogging and writing.

What State Do You Call Home?
I’ve lived in Illinois my entire life.

Where Is Your Favorite Midwestern Attraction Located?
I can’t say I have a favorite. I love a variety, and I continue to be amazed at the new things I’m constantly finding in the Midwest. Just a few weeks ago I discovered a fossil bed in Southern Indiana. Who knew?

What Is Your Number One Travel Tip?
Plan a little extra time on a road trip and take back roads instead of the Interstate. That’s where you’ll find real Americana with fun roadside attractions and neat little downtown areas with unique shops, old-fashioned soda fountains, and some great eateries. The bonus is you get away from the hectic highway traffic.

Where Do You See Yourself And Your Blog In Five Years?
In five years I see my husband and me having sold our house and being free to travel more extensively. I see my blog continuing to grow in reach and monetization.  I’m also tossing around different ideas on ways to use my blog as a springboard for other opportunities. In my “other life” I do instructional design work and am studying copywriting. I’m brainstorming ways to combine those different areas to create the perfect fit for me in the travel industry.

We love that featured blogger Connie Reed, has this to add, as she inspires us to explore more. The best thing about being a travel blogger is the opportunity to meet so many people in my travels, from small shop owners to town dignitaries. Everyone has a story to tell, and I feel privileged to learn the fascinating backgrounds of so many interesting people, something that would never happen as a regular visitor.
