Midwest Travel Network
Real Stories. Real Connections.
Our Story
Where It All Started
Midwest Travel Network began with a simple idea, that the Midwest deserved more space in the travel conversation.
Back when Twitter chats were everywhere, our co-founder Sara Broers noticed something missing. While everyone was talking about travel in every other corner of the country, no one was spotlighting the Midwest.
So she suggested: “Let’s start a chat.”
That one idea sparked connections, stories, and a growing sense of community.
Then in 2018, with encouragement from Libbey Hohn of Visit Clear Lake (who we’re now proud to call a friend), we hosted our first in-person event at the historic Surf Ballroom. It wasn’t yet called the Midwest Travel Network Conference — it was called Building Community.
And that’s exactly what we’ve been doing ever since.
Who We Are Today
Connecting Creators and Communities Across the Midwest
Today, Midwest Travel Network brings together content creators, travel writers, bloggers, and destination professionals who share a love for the Midwest.
Through storytelling and strategic partnerships, we help destinations get discovered — and creators grow their reach — through:
✅ Our Annual Conference (rotating to unique Midwest destinations)
✅ Curated FAM Trips that lead to real content and connections
✅ Actionable Workshops that educate and inspire
✅ A thriving private Facebook community with 1,400+ members
We’ve hosted six conferences in six Midwest states — and we’re just getting started.
Why It Matters
The Heart of What We Do
“Our name may have changed, but our mission hasn’t: building community through storytelling, connection, and shared love for the Midwest.”
Everything we do is rooted in people and place.
We believe in championing the small towns, surprising cities, quirky roadside stops, and hidden-gem communities that make the Midwest special.
And we believe in doing it together.
